TL

Tan Li Shan

Bishan, Singapore · Course 1

"I have been receiving IRAS notices for twenty-two years and I have never properly understood them. The annotated sample in this course changed that. I now read the notice with the same confidence I bring to any other document."

RS

Rajan Subramaniam

Queenstown, Singapore · Course 2

"The household-changes log in Course 2 was something I did not know I needed until I used it. My wife recently returned to part-time work, and the log helped me think through which reliefs were still applicable and which had shifted."

CY

Chan Yoke Leng

Tampines, Singapore · Course 3

"I have been renting out my flat for four years and was not entirely sure how to categorise my expenses. Course 3 explained the allowable and non-allowable categories clearly, with worked examples. I felt much more prepared for year-end."

NM

Noraini Mohd Aris

Jurong West, Singapore · Course 1 & 2

"I completed both Course 1 and Course 2, in that order. The second course built naturally on the first. By the time I reached the sections on parent reliefs, I already knew how to read the notice that would reflect them."

WK

Wong Kah Wai

Toa Payoh, Singapore · Course 2

"The pacing suits me well. I work long hours during the week, but a Saturday morning with one module and a cup of coffee is entirely manageable. I did not feel hurried at any point."

March 2025

PV

Priya Visvanathan

Holland Village, Singapore · Course 3

"I have consulting income from a client in Australia and had no clear picture of what that meant for my Singapore tax position. Course 3 explained the double-taxation principles without oversimplifying them, and pointed me to the right IRAS reference materials."

Case Studies

Learner Journeys

Three composite accounts drawn from learner feedback, describing the situations that brought learners to Bukit Capital and what they found on the other side.

Challenge

The Unread Notice

A retired civil servant had been filing her IRAS notice in a drawer without reading it for several years. When her accountant retired, she wanted to be able to read it herself before finding a new professional.

How She Approached It

Starting with Course 1

She completed Course 1 over six weeks at a relaxed pace, using the annotated sample notice alongside her own. She found the parallel structure — her document and the annotated example together — particularly useful.

What Changed

A Document She Could Now Read

By the end of the course, she could read her notice from top to bottom with comprehension. She also identified that a Parent Relief she had been receiving had not appeared in the previous year's notice — a discrepancy she was then able to raise with IRAS.

Challenge

Changing Family Circumstances

A senior manager in his early fifties had his mother move in after her health declined. He assumed this would affect his tax reliefs but was not sure how, or by how much, or which form to complete.

How He Approached It

Course 2 in Seven Weeks

He completed Course 2 and used the household-changes log to map his family's evolving circumstances against the relevant reliefs. The course made clear which reliefs required a claim and which were automatic.

What Changed

A Clearer Household Picture

He understood which reliefs were available, what information was needed to support each claim, and where to find that information on the IRAS portal. He was able to have a more productive conversation with his accountant at year-end.

Challenge

Rental Income and Uncertainty

A woman in her late forties owned a second property and rented it out. She was unsure which expenses she could set against her rental income and whether her occasional online tutoring sessions created additional reporting obligations.

How She Approached It

Course 3, Nine Weeks

She completed Course 3 and found the rental worksheet and freelance income tracker immediately practical. She worked through both using her own records as she went.

What Changed

Organised Records, Fewer Questions

She finished the year with well-organised records and a clear understanding of what her accountant would need. The course also helped her see that her tutoring income was well below the GST registration threshold — a question she had been unsure about for some time.
